디지털인문사회과학부에서는 미국 하와이대학의 김지형(Cheehyung Harrison Kim) 교수님을 모시고, “Ready-Made Architecture, Urban Memory, and Everyday Technology in Postwar North Korea”라는 주제로 특별 강연을 개최합니다. 관심있는 분들의 많은 참여 바랍니다.
■ 일시 : 2024. 6. 5. (수) 15:00-16:00
■ 장소 : KAIST 디지털인문사회과학부 N4동 1433호
■ 세미나 개요 : The reconstruction of North Korea after the Korean War—centered on state authority and productive work culture—was distinctly represented by architecture and technology of the quotidian kind. The reconstruction process was also an immense transnational effort, involving both construction workers and building materials from the Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe, especially East Germany. The history and memory of this moment faded from North Korea beginning in the 1970s. Of particular importance in reconstruction were mass housing and everyday technologies, the two types of vernacular machines essential for organizing the people and raising their productivity. Apartments and tractors were celebrated as emblems of new socialist life. Concurrently, apartments and tractors were spectacles that dissimulated the global capitalist ideology of industrial efficiency. Machines are then parts of coordinated systems that organize life and support the expansion of state and industrial domination.
본 강연은 영어로 진행(질의 응답은 한국어+영어)되며, 사전 등록없이 누구나 참석 가능합니다. 강연의 세부 내용은 첨부된 포스터를 참고해주시기 바랍니다.
